Be a part of the RACGPs first PitchFest for the healthcare sector

Do you want to shape the future?

Do you want to be a driver of solutions to the challenges facing the healthcare sector now and into the future? Do you have an idea that will improve and innovate the day-to-day activities of healthcare professionals or the patient experience?

If you’re answering yes, then GP19’s PitchFest will provide you with the stage where your vision and ingenuity will be showcased.

The RACGPs first ever PitchFest for GPs and the healthcare sector will be run at GP19

We’re excited to announce the RACGPs first ever PitchFest for the healthcare sector at GP19 – an opportunity for GPs and medical service professionals to share their entrepreneurial ideas – like a ‘Shark Tank’ for medical practitioners.

What is PitchFest?

PitchFest is an event where medical professionals can pitch their innovative solutions to a challenge they have seen or experienced in Australian healthcare to a group of expert judges at GP19.

Entrants submit their product, service or technology solution to the RACGP for review. Entries with the best ideas will be invited to participate in PitchFest at GP19.

Products, services or technology solutions should fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Health tech
  • Med tech
  • Product, service or technology to support the healthcare sector
  • Product, service or technology to support practice owners
  • Product, service or technology or service to support practice managers
  • Product, service or technology to support/enhance the patient experience

The first prize winner will receive:

  • a cash prize of $6,000 and a fast-tracked position in an incubator to further develop their pitch;
  • an invitation to present an update at the RACGP's GP20 conference;
  • full registration for one person to the RACGP's GP20 conference; and
  • two nights of accommodation and economy return flights from the winner's nearest capital city to the GP20 conference venue (to be announced).

The second prize winner will receive a cash prize of $3,000.

The honourable mention prize will receive a cash prize of $1,000.

If you have an idea that could improve the lives of GPs, healthcare professionals or their patients, don't miss your chance to launch your idea and make your dream a reality!

Step 1: Proposal

The first part is easy!

  1. Outline the ideas for your product, service or technology
  2. explain how it improves the day-to-day practices of healthcare professionals and/or patients
  3. tell us at what stage your idea is currently and with which area you still require assistance.

After you’ve done all that, submit your proposal via the submission portal.

Step 2: The finalists

A panel of judges will review the proposals against the selection criteria below and select the finalists who will present their pitch at GP19. A maximum of 10 ideas will be selected to participate in the final PitchFest.

Our friends at Disrupters Inc will work with the finalists to finesse their presentations.

Disruptors Inc facilitates innovation in enterprises, operating in branches in Australia and in Singapore. They launched in Sydney, Australia, in 2014 and focus on innovating through hackathons and other rapid prototyping methods.

They bring together expertise across a range of disciplines in order to deliver new products, new designs, new policies and partnerships, improvements in organisational operation and better outcomes for all.

Step 3: Pitch!

If your proposal is shortlisted, you’ll be invited to pitch your idea in person to a panel of experts at GP19’s PitchFest in Adelaide on Saturday 26 October.

A winner will be selected after all finalists have presented their pitches. The winner will receive a registration to GP20, return economy airfares to Perth and two night's accommodation to present at the GP20 PitchFest on the progress of their idea over the past 12 months.

Selection criteria

The panel will assess all ideas against the following criteria:

  • Relevancy to the Australian healthcare.
  • How well the product, service or technology solves high-level problems (stated or unstated).
  • Operation and interaction design of the product, service or technology.
  • How well the product, service or technology assists medical professionals and/or patients in their everyday activities.
  • Marketability of the product, service or technology.

Keep your eyes peeled in the lead-up to the event for more information about the judging panel.
