Be a part of Australia's first PitchFest for GPs and the healthcare sector

Are you a GP who wants to shape the future?

Do you want to be a driver of solutions to the challenges facing the health sector now and into the future? Do you have an idea that will improve and innovate the day-to-day activities of healthcare professionals or the patient experience?

If you’re answering yes, then GP19’s PitchFest will provide you with the stage to be recognised for your vision and ingenuity.

GPs have long been innovators and we’re excited to announce that the RACGP will host Australia’s first ever PitchFest for GPs and the healthcare sector at GP19 – an opportunity for GPs and medical service professionals to share their entrepreneurial ideas – Like a ‘Shark Tank’ for medical practitioners.

The first ever PitchFest for GPs and the healthcare sector will be run by the RACGP at GP19

What is PitchFest?

PitchFest is an event where GPs can pitch their innovative solutions to a challenge they have seen or experienced in general practice to a group of expert judges at GP19.

Entrants submit their product, service or technology solution to the RACGP. Entries will be reviewed by the RACGP, with the best ideas invited to participate in PitchFest at GP19.

Products, services or technology solutions should fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Health tech
  • Med tech
  • Product, service or technology to support GPs
  • Product, service or technology to support practice owners
  • Product, service or technology or service to support practice managers
  • Product, service or technology to support/enhance the patient experience

The RACGP is offering a prize package of one full registration to GP20, return economy airfares to Perth and two nights of accommodation.

If you have an idea that could improve the lives of GPs, healthcare professionals or their patients, don't miss your chance to launch your idea and make your dream a reality!

Applications will open Wednesday 23 May 2019

How does it work?

Step 1: Proposal

The first part is easy! Outline the ideas for your product, service or technology; explain how it improves the day-to-day practices of GPs, healthcare professionals and/or patients; tell us what stage it’s currently at and what you still need help with.

After you’ve done all that, submit your proposal via the submission portal.

Step 2: The finalists

A panel of judges will review the proposals against the selection criteria below and select the finalists who will present their pitch at GP19. A maximum of 10 ideas will be selected to participate in the final PitchFest.

Our friends at Disrupters Inc will work with the finalists to finesse their presentations.

Disruptors Inc is facilitates innovation in enterprises, operating in branches in Australia and in Singapore. They launched in Sydney, Australia, in 2014 and focus on innovating through hackathons and other rapid prototyping methods. They bring together expertise across a range of disciplines in order to deliver new products, new designs, new policies and partnerships, improvements in organisational operation and better outcomes for all.

Step 3: Pitch!

If your proposal is shortlisted, you’ll be invited to pitch your idea in person to a panel of experts at GP19’s PitchFest in Adelaide on Saturday 26 October.

A winner will be chosen by the panel on the day after all of finalists have had a chance to present their pitch. The winner will receive a registration to GP20, return economy airfares to Perth and two nights of accommodation so they can present at the GP20 PitchFest on the progress of their idea over the past 12 months.

Selection criteria

The panel will assess all ideas against the following criteria:

  • Relevancy to general practice.
  • How well the product, service or technology solves high level problems (stated or unstated).
  • Operation and interaction design of the product, service or technology.
  • How well the product, service or technology assists general practitioners and/or patients in their everyday activities.
  • Marketability or the product, service or technology

Keep your eyes peeled in the lead up to the event for more information about the judging panel.
